Amber Heard insists she’s not ‘vindictive’ speaking out against Johnny Depp
Amber Heard has hinted that Johnny Depp’s other exes may have been too afraid to publicly accuse him of alleged abuse — and insisted that her continuing to speak out doesn’t mean she’s “vindictive.”
Ahead of her bombshell NBC “Dateline” interview with Savannah Guthrie that airs Friday night, Heard — in a 20-minute preview clip on Peacock — offered up a reason for why she’s the only one of Depp’s former partners to allege he hit her.
“Look what happened to me when I came forward. Would you?” said Heard, 36.
Early in the teaser, Guthrie had noted that Depp testified he’d never struck Heard during their relationship and that “not one woman has come forward and said he physically hit them.”
Elsewhere in the clip, the “Aquaman” actress explained her motivation for speaking out publicly — even after a jury ruled earlier this month that she had defamed her ex-husband with her abuse allegations.
“You’re here. Some people might ask why. Are you brave? Are you reckless? Are you vindictive? Why did you want to do an interview?” Guthrie asked Heard at the beginning of their exchange.
Heard responded, “One thing I can tell you is one thing I’m not is vindictive. There’s no part of me that sees any … This would be a really lousy way to get vengeance.”
She added, “You know, Savannah, as silly as it is to say this out loud … my goal, the only thing I could hope for at this point, is I just want people to see me as a human being.”
The latest snippets from the interview are among a series of teasers that have been rolled out on the “Today” show all week, including one in which Heard admitted that she “absolutely” still loves Depp.
At one point, she also accused Depp of being a liar and said she stood by “every word” of her testimony.
Asked if there was one thing she wished the jury could have seen during the trial, Heard said there are documents from her doctor that “represented years, years of real-time explanations of what was going on.”
“There’s a binder worth of years of notes dating back to 2011 from the very beginning of my relationship that were taken by my doctor, who I was reporting the abuse to,” Heard said at one point in the interview.
Heard’s lawyers weren’t able to use the documents as evidence during the trial due to “hearsay.”
