Anthony Edwards’ lawyer slams ‘baseless charges’ after alleged chair swing

Anthony Edwards’ lawyer has come out swinging.

Edwards, the star guard/forward on the Timberwolves, was cited for misdemeanor assault by Denver Police after appearing to swing a chair in frustration and allegedly causing minor injuries to two women following his team’s season-ending loss to the Nuggets on Tuesday night.

Edwards has retained defense attorney Harvey Steinberg, who has successfully represented a number of Denver-area athletes over the years.

“With the game over, Anthony’s exit from the court was partially obstructed by a chair, which he moved and set down three steps later,” Steinberg said in a statement, according to The Athletic.

“As video of the incident confirms, Anthony did not swing the chair at anyone and off course did not intend to hurt anyone. Despite these innocent facts, the Denver Police Department inexplicably chose to charge Anthony with two counts of misdemeanor assault. Anthony intends to vigorously defend against these baseless charges.”

On Wednesday, Denver Police confirmed to The Post that Edwards had been charged in the matter.

“Anthony Edwards was cited for 3rd Degree Assault after the game Tuesday night,” a spokesperson for the department told The Post.

“It was reported to Denver Police that while Edwards was walking from the court to the locker room at the conclusion of the game, he swung a folding chair and struck two women who were working at the time. Both women were injured, and at the time it was reported that the injuries were not serious.”

The Timberwolves said in a statement that they were aware of the incident and were “in the process of gathering more information.”
