40-pound ‘chonky’ cat update: What’s Patches been up to?

So fur, so good!

Kay Ford, who recently went viral for adopting a 40-pound cat named Patches, has been sharing the flabby feline’s weight-loss journey to his legions of fans.

“I am floored, flummoxed, flabbergasted and overwhelmed in such a good way with all of the love and support that Patches has received,” Ford, a retiree from Virginia, told The Post on Thursday. “He currently weighs 38.8 pounds.”

In response to the demand for updates, Ford has set up a Facebook page, where she regularly posts about Patches.

Ford revealed she takes the cat to the vet every week for check-ins, and she is being sent equipment, so she will be able to examine him herself.

The devoted cat lover also told a local news outlet that she plans to get in shape alongside her furry friend.

“I thought that it would be inspirational for me to do it with him,” Ford said to Richmond’s NBC12. “I never realized that I was going to be accountable to tens of thousands of people.”

“But I think, ‘Hey, if that’s one way to do it, that’s one way to do it and darn it, I’m going to do it! If he can do it. I can do it,'” added Ford.

She found her purr-fect pet last week after her daughter texted her there was a Facebook post from the Richmond Animal Care and Control advertising the cat, who had just been made available for adoption.

“She sent me a text this morning, while I was watching the finale of ‘The Mandalorian,’” Ford explained at the time. “I opened it up, and I saw the picture of Patches, and I just knew immediately I needed to go and get him.”

Knowing the competition would be fierce, Ford — who owns another kitty named Wellesley — immediately got in contact with the RACC.

“I knew that I was in a position to help him,” Ford told The Post. “I’m retired, I’m home a lot. I just am completely motivated and just feel like I have the time to help him … get to this point where he and Wellesley are just playing together and having a wonderful time, and he’s happy and healthy.”

Patches, a domestic short hair cat, was surrendered to the RACC on April 4 by his former owner. The organization didn’t disclose what the feline was fed that made him pile on the pounds.

Ford managed to meet the hefty feline — and the rest was hiss-tory.

“I immediately just sat down on the floor. I’m not going to be the right person if I’m just standing there or if I’m sitting in a chair,” she recalled.

“You want to get down with him. And I wanted to touch him, and I wanted to hold him. I just rubbed him … and he started purring right away.”
