Weird But True

‘Goblin fetus’ discovered in old warehouse, claims local mayor

Hopefully, he’s not “trolling” the public.

The discovery of an apparent “goblin fetus” in Mexico has the internet in a tizzy with users debating over the identity of the freaky folkloric-seeming find.

The bizarre specimen was reportedly exhumed during construction work on a derelict warehouse in Santa María Regla, which is located northeast of Mexico City.

“Samples have already been taken to determine a scientific explanation,” Francisco Mayoral Flores, the municipal mayor in the town where the alleged orcling was found, told Jam Press.

As accompanying photos show, the mummified corpse boasts a small body, pointy ears, an oversize shnoz and gnarled, claw-tipped hands and feet, much like one of the evil emerald imps from “Lord of the Rings.”

In accordance, Flores was quick to label the remains a “goblin or a nagual.” For the uninitiated, the latter being is described in Mesoamerican mythology as a human with the ability to transform into an animal.

The “goblin baby” is currently on display at the Museo de los Duendes — which literally translates to the Goblin Museum — in the municipality of Huasca de Ocampo, where the pol serves as mayor.

Though his analysis might sound outlandish, Flores suggested that it’s actually quite reasonable considering the magical realm over which he presides.

“If it had been found in another municipality, it would not have been relevant,” the mayor declared. “But due to the themes of goblins and the mystical here, there is a cultural and social demand to give it importance.”

Needless to say, social media was not exactly “goblin” up Flores’ fairy tale explanation with one incredulous viewer deeming it “ridiculous.”

“Is this a joke?” wondered another, while a third snarked, “Good thing it’s a magical town!”

Meanwhile, one observant viewer found that proportions didn’t jive with the goblin’s description in cryptozoological canon. “Are you telling me that goblins are born human-sized and get tiny as they grow?” they wrote.

Meanwhile, “doctors and vets have stated that it is a malformed fetus of a cat or dog,” according to Mayor Flores, noting that samples have been taken to confirm its identity.

He ultimately concluded that “everyone can value it themselves based on their beliefs and traditions.”

Flores isn’t the first to swear he’s seen a mythical being.

In 2021, three men in Australia claimed they encountered an apparent Bigfoot-like “Yowie” as they traveled home from work – leaving them terrified.

In the past, people have even been guilty of making mythological hybrids via taxidermy and other tricks.

One of the more notable chimeras in American mythology is the legendary Jackalope: a rabbit affixed with the horns of a pronghorn antelope.
