Suspect arrested in alleged broad daylight kidnapping of California woman

Police arrested a man after he allegedly struck a woman with a pistol and shoved her into a car in a California neighborhood Tuesday.

The suspect, identified by local outlets as 32-year-old William Garcia, dragged a woman into his silver Kia Rio before driving off in the broad daylight attack.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD), which didn’t name Garcia, announced the suspect was arrested on kidnapping and abduction charges.

LASD said the woman was found safe Wednesday night following the incident in Commerce, a town located roughly 8 miles outside of Los Angeles.

Harrowing security camera footage showed the woman, who appeared on the phone, fleeing down a residential sidewalk.

She hurried up a nearby driveway before she seemingly attempted to hide behind a gate.

Several seconds later, the armed man pulls up in his car and confronts the woman.

She is seen walking over to the passenger side of the vehicle, indicating that the pair might know each other, before the man hits her head with a pistol and shoves her into the passenger side of the car.

He is seen looking around briefly before jumping back in the car and driving off.

The suspect’s vehicle has been recovered as evidence, police said.

Officials believe the possible kidnapping may have stemmed from a “possible domestic dispute,” ABC7 reports.

“The victim was found unharmed and she is currently in the custody of the sheriff’s department, pending further questioning,” said LASD Dept. Veronica Fantom, according to the outlet.
