Mets prospect Ronny Mauricio leaves Triple-A game with ankle injury after collision

The arrival of the next Baby Met could be delayed.

Ronny Mauricio, who has been tearing up Triple-A Syracuse competition, was removed from Sunday’s game after a collision at second base.

The initial diagnosis, The Post’s Joel Sherman reported, is a sprained ankle. The Mets will decide in the next few days whether it warrants a stint on the injured list.

Mauricio, a natural shortstop who is being moved around the field, was playing second base when Rochester’s Cody Wilson attempted to steal second.

Video from the play shows Wilson sliding into the bag, which was partly blocked by Mauricio’s left foot.

Wilson crashed into Mauricio, who lay on the dirt for several moments. Video showed Mauricio was able to walk off the field under his own power.

Mets manager Buck Showalter said he did not yet know about Mauricio’s status after the Mets’ 6-4 loss to the Blue Jays at Citi Field.

On Friday, GM Billy Eppler said Mauricio would begin seeing time in left field, which opens up another path for the hot-hitting prospect to make his way to the majors, as Francisco Alvarez, Brett Baty and Mark Vientos already have done.

In 56 games at Triple-A, the 22-year-old has posted a .923 OPS with eight home runs and nine steals. Mauricio has struck out too often (41 times compared with 11 walks) but has hit .333.

Jose Quintana (left rib fracture) will throw his first live batting practice Monday in Port St. Lucie since sustaining the injury in spring training.

The lefty starter is scheduled to throw a second live BP Friday, and the Mets hope a rehab assignment will follow.

Omar Narvaez (left calf strain) caught nine innings with Triple-A Syracuse on Friday and Saturday and could be activated Tuesday.

“I feel 100 percent,” Narvaez said.

Sam Coonrod (right lat strain) has been given the clearance to long-toss, Showalter said, and could return to the mound in one or two weeks.

“That’s a really good development,” Showalter said of the hard-throwing righty reliever, “because he was impressive in the spring.”

Elieser Hernandez (right shoulder strain) threw 1 ¹/₃ scoreless and hitless innings in which he walked one and struck out one with Single-A St. Lucie on Sunday.

The righty swingman has appeared in three games with St. Lucie and is set to travel to Double-A Binghamton to pitch two innings Thursday. The Mets anticipate he would then move up to Syracuse.

Stephen Ridings (right lat strain), another righty relief arm, is set to begin a rehab assignment with St. Lucie on Tuesday.

Starling Marte (2-for-4 with a home run and double) recorded his first game with multiple extra-base hits since Aug. 19, 2022, at Philadelphia.
