Vile hit jobs on Casey DeSantis make me want woke to die too

Can you spot the difference between these two sentences:

1. Florida is where woke goes to die.

2. Florida is where the woke go to die.

Not difficult, right?

The first clearly refers to a pseudo-fascist ideology that most definitely needs to be killed off, as Florida Gov. and presidential candidate Ron DeSantis has been waging a successful campaign to do in his state.

The second, equally clearly, refers to actual woke people going to Florida to be killed.

Which one do you think Casey DeSantis, wife of the governor, meant when she sported a black leather jacket to an Iowa campaign several days ago adorned with the words “Where Woke Goes To Die” on the back?

We all know the answer.

But Katie Baker, executive editor of the Daily Beast website, willfully wants you to misinterpret it to suit her warped, hard-left agenda.

In a vicious, vile and spectacularly personally abusive column published Sunday, Baker asserted: “Casey DeSantis’ coat is just like her husband Ron DeSantis’ campaign: Crude. Grasping. Saying the ugly part out loud. Whereas [President Donald] Trump would wink-wink at the fascists — who can forget his dog whistle to the ‘very fine people on both sides’ at Charlottesville — DeSantis wants to peel off Trump’s base by being even more explicit about who he intends to target. You can see it right there on his wife’s jacket: DeSantis’ Florida is where the woke go to die — and a lot of other people die as well.”

Wow.

It’s really something when the liberal elite media say the ugly part out loud, isn’t it?

Let’s be clear: Katie Baker knew what Casey DeSantis’ coat statement meant.

Frankly, a lobotomized warthog knows she was talking about woke ideology, because that’s what Ron has been talking about incessantly all year, in unambiguous context.

Self-evidently, she doesn’t mean woke people go to die in Florida, because that would make her a horrendous human being who wants to kill people.

Yet that’s exactly what Baker wants you all to think Casey DeSantis is.

Expanding on her dangerously disingenuous theme, she wrote: “Florida under DeSantis has had one of the highest COVID death rates in the nation, even as he’s exulted in his anti-mask policies. And as the governor whips up anti-LGBT sentiment and bans books on race, Casey’s jacket and its message of death also bring to mind the horrific Pulse nightclub mass shooting in Orlando, not to mention the state’s shameful history of Jim Crow-era lynch mobs and the Rosewood massacre … the jacket, then, is a warning: Watch out, America.”

Again, wow.

And just in case we didn’t get the same “Casey DeSantis wants to kill people” memo, Baker explains that Casey “is telling us she’s down with his [Ron’s] message of division and dehumanization. She’s telling us they are ready for far more power. She’s incandescent in her black leather jacket, at her husband’s side — both of them seething with hate.”

Really? The pictures I saw from Iowa were of a happy, smiling couple wanting to make the point that insane woke ideology of the kind despised by most rational people won’t be tolerated in Florida.

It’s not just the absurd, deliberate lie behind Baker’s leather jacket narrative that’s so grotesquely offensive, it’s the horribly snobbish language she uses to describe Casey DeSantis, a woman, a mother and a recent cancer survivor.

Baker calls the jacket “ghastly” because it has an American flag and an alligator on it, and sneers: “It brought to mind nothing so much as the racks of a Red State big-bin store where it would be retailing for $24.99.”

And she scoffs that Casey will never have the moral purity of Jackie Kennedy, or the “class and effortless elegance” of Michelle Obama or Jill Biden.

She even brands her a “Walmart Melania.”

These taunts all reminded me of Hillary Clinton’s “basket of deplorables” jibe at Trump supporters in 2016. I’ve always felt it was that disgustingly arrogant and prejudiced categorization of tens of millions of Americans that cost Clinton the election, not what James Comey said about her emails.

It looks as if Casey DeSantis is going to face the same unfair treatment that Melania Trump did, Morgan writes. AP Photo/Artie Walker Jr.

Yet here we go again with liberals using hugely popular Middle American emblems like flags, alligators and Walmart as repellently elitist sticks to beat Republicans.

Have they learned nothing?

Do they not understand that when they do this, all they achieve is guaranteeing more votes against their side in the next election?

A separate hit piece in Politico last week compared Casey DeSantis to Lady MacBeth, stealing a jibe first made about her by Trump devotee Roger Stone.

It quoted an anonymous former DeSantis staffer who branded Ron “a vindictive motherf—er” and said Casey was “twice that.”

Ron DeSantis reacted with understandable anger, saying “everyone that read it thought it was just absolutely disgusting, just a typical hatchet job.”

And he added: “If she were a Democrat … all those media people, they would be treating her like she was the greatest thing since sliced bread, because she’s beautiful, she’s smart, she’s effective.”

He’s right.

There’s a stinking hypocrisy about the way politicians’ wives get treated in America by the liberal-dominated media.

Melania Trump was treated incredibly unfairly, despite rarely putting a foot wrong as first lady, and it looks like Casey DeSantis is going to be treated the same way.

Their crime?

Their husbands are conservatives.

The woke brigade loves to preach about kindness, fairness and equality, especially when it comes to women.

But if you’re a Republican politician’s spouse, they hate you, apply standards very different from the way they treat Democratic politicians’ spouses, and want to destroy you.

It’s one of the reasons why I also want woke to go to Florida — and die.
