John Gotti III gets boxing suspension after wild Floyd Mayweather brawl

There will be no immediate rematch between Floyd Mayweather and John Gotti III, at least not in Florida, after their fight over the weekend devolved into a wild brawl.

A Florida State Athletic Commission spokesperson told TMZ that Gotti III has been banned from fighting in the state for six months, in a decision that was swiftly made on Sunday night following the fracas.

Gotti III, the grandson of former New York mob boss John Gotti, was disqualified in his exhibition match against Mayweather, and then continued to go after the legendary boxer after the bell.

This caused a crazy brawl in which a number of people jumped into the ring.

Members of Mayweather’s circle confronted Gotti III nearly immediately.

Eventually, the fighters were escorted to their respective locker rooms.

No injuries were reported from the melee.

The disqualification and subsequent brawl occurred under a minute into the sixth round of the fight, after Mayweather seemed to be toying with his opponent for the bout’s first five rounds.

“Enemy for life,” Gotti III wrote on Instagram. “Never put me down or stopped me. It was DQ for no reason.”

Nevertheless, according to TMZ Gotti III and Mayweather “ended up hashing things out once cooler heads prevailed,” and are already having talks about an eventual rematch.

Not everyone was convinced there was even actual animosity between Gotti III and Mayweather in the first place.

“The Floyd-Gotti ‘brawl’ after my man Kenny Bayless stopped the ‘fight’ was obviously scripted and staged,” FS1 host Skip Bayless tweeted on Sunday night.
