Cheerios fans peeved as favorite cereal is discontinued: ‘What do I eat now?’

O no!

General Mills has discontinued its popular maple-flavored Cheerios — the news was confirmed after a shopper recently tweeted, “Hey @cheerios, did you guys get rid of the maple flavor? They were the best!”

The cereal brand responded May 18: “Maple Cheerios have been discontinued. We’ll let our team know you’re missing them.”

The Post reached out to General Mills for comment.

“Why would you do this? Those were my favorite flavor :(,” one poor sap tweeted this week.

Cheerios confirmed on Twitter that the maple flavor was discontinued.

“There are many reasons why we may discontinue a product. While we can’t promise that we will bring it back, we will let our team know that you would like to see this return to the shelves. Thank you,” the Cheerios account replied Tuesday.

Cheerios introduced the maple flavor in October 2018, writing on Facebook, “Introducing our newest flavor–Maple Cheerios!  Delicious O’s with a touch of real maple syrup, in stores now.”

Fans have bombarded that post with requests for the product’s return. Others took to Twitter to beg.

“I am so sad about Maple Cheerios. I bought every box that I could find. And alas I am finally out. Please consider bringing it back,” tweeted one person.

“This is your best flavor. Why take away something that has such great reviews?” commented another unsatisfied customer. “This is disappointing.”

Though there are several other Cheerios flavors, some breakfast lovers have no interest in making the switch.

“[Maple Cheerios] was unique and delicious. Nothing remotely like it on the market,” wrote a fan.

“Sad day…maple flavored Cheerios are being discontinued, what do I eat now?” sighed another.

However, a few people have already found replacements for the discontinued cereal.

“Plain Cheerios plus maple syrup. No further questions at this time,” quipped one innovator.

Another person is kicking it “O”ld school: “Don’t miss maple. All about OG Cheerios. #oat4ever.”
