Jennifer Aniston’s ‘go-to’ collagen supplement recalled over contamination fears

Nearly 60,000 canisters of a supplement Jennifer Aniston promotes have been recalled due to potential contamination.

Vital Proteins is voluntarily recalling its 24-ounce canisters of Collagen Peptides powder for fear that pieces of a broken blue plastic lid contaminated the product.

The “Friends” actress is a spokesperson for the Chicago-headquartered company, which said the affected canisters were distributed to Costco stores in 20 states and Puerto Rico and sold from April 17 to April 24.

“No injuries have been reported due to this matter and the potential risk to the consumer is low. However, out of an abundance of caution, we are initiating this voluntary recall as consumer safety is our first priority,” a Vital Proteins representative wrote in an April letter to Costco shoppers.

The letter urges customers who bought the supplement in the relevant period not to consume it and to instead return their purchase to Costco for a full refund.

The Post has reached out to Vital Proteins and Costco for comment.

On the Vital Proteins website, Aniston, 54, is listed as the chief creative officer, a position she’s held since November 2020. At the time, Aniston said she had been using Vital Proteins products since 2016.

Just last year, Aniston revealed her “go-to collagen routine” is adding Vital Proteins Collagen Peptides “in my morning cup of coffee or smoothie — so easy to use.”

Collagen is a structural protein found in connective tissue, skin, tendon, bone, and cartilage. There is little scientific evidence to support the notion that oral collagen supplements hold health or cosmetic benefits.

In a statement to media outlets Wednesday, Vital Proteins said it initiated the recall “out of an abundance of caution and our commitment to product quality and consumer safety.”

The company added that it “worked with Costco to both notify their members who may have purchased impacted product, and remove any potentially impacted product from stores.”

“To date, no injuries have been reported in relation to this recall,” the statement read. “No other retailers or e-tailers are affected by this recall, and no other Vital Proteins products are affected.”
