‘The Show’ Episode 62: Billy Eppler Talks 2023 Mets Failures, Future

The Mets were the big story at the 2023 MLB trade deadline.

They sold a ton of pieces and made it clear they were sellers, re-tooling their farm system for future years in the hopes that these top prospects turn into stars one day.

  • 2023 SEASON: Spring did not go well with Edwin Diaz going down. By late June, we started thinking about areas we can help the club in the future.
  • SELLERS: Wanted to enhance the long-term goal of the organization. Set the bar high.
  • PROSPECTS: Some will not pan out, some may be franchise players. They set expectations high for their returns, giving those teams a lot of money left on contracts.
  • 2024 SEASON: They will not have the same odds and expectations as they did in 2023. They will still put together a competitive product.
  • PITCHING: Not getting much pitching at the deadline. How will they approach getting pitching this offseason?
  • HIS FUTURE: Any concerns with a new team president and your future? Will Buck Showalter be the Mets manager in 2024?
  • RONNY MAURICIO: Still some things they want to see on the offensive and defensive side.
