Olivia Dunne hasn’t ‘quite thought about’ returning to LSU for a fifth year

Olivia Dunne hinted that her time at LSU could be coming to an end.

While the gymnastics superstar has one more year left of eligibility, Dunne said during an interview on NBC’s “TODAY” that she hadn’t given much thought to whether she’d return next season.

The Tigers are coming off the gymnastics program’s first national title over the weekend after they edged out second-place finisher California thanks to Aleah Finnegan scoring a 9.95 on the beam event.

“It definitely makes me want to come back, but I haven’t quite thought about it completely,” Dunne said. “I’ve just been focused on the now and winning this national title. I’ll definitely start thinking about it.”

Dunne will graduate from LSU in May, but has a fifth year of eligibility due to the COVID pandemic.

Dunne told “TODAY” that the fact LSU had won a national title had still felt “unreal” and that she was “still trying to get my voice back from cheering so loud.”

LSU’s national title victory led to congratulations being sent to Dunne from golf influencer Paige Spiranac and Dunne’s boyfriend, MLB prospect Paul Skenes.

“It was an unforgettable experience, and I’ll probably be thinking about it for the rest of my life,” Dunne said.

The Hillsdale, New Jersey native is perhaps the biggest name in gymnastics as one of the sport’s most talented competitors and due to her social media presence, she boasts eight million followers on TikTok and five million followers on Instagram.

Dunne, who has been doing gymnastics since she was 3 years old, has gained massive popularity on TikTok but said that she had not been focused on recent efforts by US lawmakers to ban the social media app.

“If I’m being honest, I didn’t quite know that TikTok was going to get banned,” Dunne said. “I’ve just been training every day in the gym and just working on my gymnastics and doing what I love, and that’s what I love to focus on. I haven’t really thought about it too much.”
