Detroit has the sixth-most cap space to use this offseason, making it a likely landing spot after a strong season with Patrick Kane in the fold.

Kane switched between the first and second lines as the Red Wings began to streak toward the playoff before ultimately falling short.

Should Kane not be re-signed by the Red Wings, it would free up the space for Stamkos to move to Detroit as a catalyst for a streaking team of youngsters.

Stamkos’ Stanley Cup experience will be a welcome sight for the Red Wings, who also have Alex DeBrincat and Moritz Seider as pieces to build around.

Betting on the NHL?

The Lightning have the 10th-least cap space in the NHL, so any negotiation will be tenuous for the Bolts.

Stamkos figures to grab a big-time contract from whichever team wins the potential bidding war.

He tallied 81 points (40 goals, 41 assists) this past season, after registering 84 the year before.

The top pick in the 2008 draft, Stamkos has 552 goals and 1,137 points in 1,082 NHL games over 16 NHL seasons, all with the Lightning.
