How to prepare for a psychic reading: 5 tips from a clairvoyant

While people have sought the insights and intercession of seers and soothsayers for time immemorial, there has been a recent surge of interest in psychic readings.

Psychics are not just the terrain of the average Joe. Neigh, many a high-roller, power player and big-name celebrity has sought solace in psychic knowledge. These folks include but are not limited to Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Princess Diana, and Ronald and Nancy Reagan.

Unsurprisingly, the COVID-19 pandemic gave rise to a sharp increase in New Yorkers seeking psychic readings, with some abandoning traditional therapy in favor of answers offered by the esoteric arts.

Why do we seek answers from psychic sources now more than ever?

Intuitive energy practitioner Nicole Love, owner of Soul Gratitude Holistic Healing, tells The Post that readings are in high demand when high stress is at hand.

“When people are feeling depressed or anxious, they want some hope kind of hope, something else from life, and they look to the unknown and the mystery,” Love said.

While looking to the unknown, hold fast to the truth that any esoteric or energy work — astrology, tarot, mediums, etc. — should affirm, rather than undermine, your inner wisdom. Most importantly, make sure the vibes are right with your practitioner. For more information on vetting your psychic, read our list of red flags here.

Once you’ve found your person and booked your session, see below for tips on how to prepare for and make the most of your reading with commentary from Astrid Bly of California Psychics.

Reflect

While this may seem like an obvious instruction, calming your mind and calling in your own intuition ahead of your reading ensures your focus is clear and your channels of communication are receptive.

“Take some time ahead of your reading to identify what topics or areas of life you would like to find certainty, whether that be love and relationships, careers, pets, or even reconnecting with loved ones you have lost,” Bly imparts.

Relax

Bly recommends tabling any intense conversations and avoiding any emotional exchanges on the day of your reading.

“Right before a psychic reading, try to relax and clear your mind of any outside stressors or emotions,” she explains. “If you just had an emotional exchange, it’s best to wait a while before a psychic reading to fully relax your mind and to help you make the most of the experience.”

Take notes

Emotions can run high and information comes quickly during a reading, so keep a notepad handy to refer to later. Baramee – stock.adobe.com

For most people, a reading will stir emotion — and it may be difficult to hold onto all the information being offered.

Bly recommends: “Having a notebook handy is key, as it can be hard to remember verbatim what is said when you are having an emotional reading. Jot down a few key points to look back on later to help during your reflection on the experience.”

Many psychics, especially those communicating via phone or video call, will offer to record your session for you. If you have booked an in-person reading, ask ahead of time if recording is permissible.

Be open-minded

Bly explains: “For those skeptical of psychic readings, try your best to go into the experience with an open mind. Give your psychic a chance to connect with you emotionally for the best experience possible. Take a breath, and trust that your psychic advisor has your back.”

There is a definite vulnerability to entering into a reading. Again, the emphasis here is on trust and an overall feeling of safety. Make sure you feel secure about the person giving you your reading; nerves are normal, but aversion is not.

A best practice is to book with someone who has been personally recommended by a trusted friend or adviser.

Ask ‘how,’ ‘what’ or ‘why’ questions

“‘How’ questions are going to help you chart your path as you move forward, ‘why’ questions can guide your understanding of how your actions bring about the results they do, good or bad, and ‘what’ questions are for when you truly want to get to the heart of an issue and are ready to do some intense self-work,” Bly explains.

Regardless of what psychic you seek, hope for a door to open or a truth to resonate. Remember that it is your responsibility to integrate the knowledge you receive and move toward that possibility purposefully and fully.

Happy soul searching and void peering,
