Drew Barrymore reveals suicidal thoughts after Madison Beer’s confession

Singer and influencer Madison Beer revealed her struggles with mental health and battling suicidal thoughts on the “Drew Barrymore Show” Wednesday — which led to the host’s shocking confession.

“I felt like I was putting on this facade and living this role I had been assigned, and it just all caught up to me one day,” Beer shared.

The 24-year-old, who was discovered by Justin Bieber, opened up about her challenges in her memoir “The Half of It.”

“I was struggling alone for so long, and I felt like I didn’t have anyone,” she said.

But once Beer realized she wasn’t the only person who faced dark thoughts, she knew she had to speak up.

During the sit-down interview, Barrymore revealed she also overcame suicidal thoughts.

“I’ve been there. I related on levels that are difficult to talk about,” she said.

In the past, Barrymore has been vocal about her childhood drug addiction and how she recovered.

“I don’t know if I really wanted to leave the Earth. I was so desperate I didn’t know where else to turn,” the talk show host confessed.

Barrymore gently asked Beer about her two “attempts at escaping life.”

The “Baddest” singer admitted being in a suicidal ideation mindset for “at least a year” and how “it became very normal to [for her] to think about that at the end of every day.”

“Sitting on a balcony and debating jumping off was just something that I kind of did,” Beer told Barrymore. “And that’s why I’m like, ‘Was that really that big of a deal?’ Now obviously, with a lot of reflection and writing about it, obviously yes.”

The influencer shared, “I always used to say to my best friend, ‘I want a temporary death,’ ” to escape her hectic life at that current moment.

Barrymore also praised Beer for being open about her struggles, asking, “How did you find your way back out?”

The singer admitted that she “went on a couple mental health retreats, did therapy every single day of the week” and “started healing the little girl in me.”

“I made a choice to live,” Beer declared. “Clearly, there is something more for me to live for.”

“Everything you just said was an incredible roller coaster of real productiveness in seeking help, in self-awareness, in giving grace to others, realizing you’re not giving it to yourself,” Barrymore gushed over Beer, saying, “I love you.”

The singer has always been open about her mental health since becoming famous. In 2020, Beer celebrated one year of being “clean of self-harm” on Instagram, writing, “As of today … I am officially one year clean of self-harm … I never thought I’d be able to say this & I am so proud of myself.”
